HELPS TO AVOID CHILD ABDUCTION
AN APPEALING UNTRUTH
familiar tones of the original liar
PREPARED, NOT AFRAID
To help your family and children avoid danger, the first step is to accept this world can be a dangerous place, and predators hunt easy targets. Arm your children with the information they need to avoid being targeted and how to react if approached. By giving a child the tools he needs to deal confidently with an emergency and avoid peril, he is less likely to live in fear.
FIND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
Discuss with your child the how to identify a stranger. Make a game of it and review what you have learned while going about your normal routine with your child.
* Demonstrate to your child how he can choose a safe stranger to ask for help in an emergency.}
* Libraries, police stations, restaurants, stores, homes of trusted family members or friends, community centers and other locations should be discussed and shown to the child as safe places he can go for help.
* Sit a while and watch people. Discuss the differences between a person that pretends to be your friend and someone that is simply being polite. Show your child how to determine when someone is just a bit too perfect, too nice, in a creepy sort of way.
KNOWLEDGE YOUR CHILD SHOULD HAVE
These scenarios (and similar ones) should be avoided:
* A person holding a leash and asking for help finding a lost puppy.
* People asking directions.
* Drivers asking for help with mechanical difficulties.
* A person that tries to get a child to help find something in a house or car.
* Make it your custom to tell your child who and when another adult will be driving them.
* Teach children to have confidence in their instincts. Running away should be the first response of a child that feels threatened. A child that is afraid should run for help. Escaping quickly to a safe place, a child should then find a trusted adult and ASK THAT PERSON TO HELP.
* Take on the role of a stranger and pretend to ask for directions or try to get your child to help you find a lost pet.
* Show your child the safe range to remain beyond the reach of a stranger.
* Practice running away for times when a stranger gets too close or grabs another child. Tell your child the importance of running for help (and not staying to help) if another child is grabbed.
* Practice with your child the art of yelling and screaming to attract attention.
* Show your child how to claw an abductors face (eyes, ears, mouths & nose) with their fingers to get away.
MAKING YOUR CHILD LESS OF A TARGET
* Show your children how to look out for each other and stay in a group.
* Remind your child that he should never go with someone that invites them to leave the group.
* Playtime should be with a group or a safe buddy.
* Require your child to check with you before they leave home or some other approved location.
* Plan a neighborhood meeting to share these tips with other parents.
When you make these things part of your daily living, your child should not become fearful. Rather than something extra, a child can learn these things in much the same way as he learns to brush his teeth, wear a seatbelt and check for traffic at an intersection: as a means to insure his well-being.
HOW TO SURVIVE A WILD DOG ATTACK
A REASON TO BE CONCERNED
Wild dogs recently killed a 65-year-old woman and her 77-year-old husband. The event did not happen in the outback or the wilds of Africa. This happened in the United States in a quiet neighborhood in Georgia.
Feral (wild) dogs are animals that haven't received human socialization. Pets that are released (or run away) and then reproduce are the common source of feral animals. The pet dog population in the United States is larger than any other country.
DVM Magazine's February 2009 issue stated that the ASPCA projects that a million household pets could become homeless in the United States due to economic concerns. Rather than euthanize a family pet, some owners prefer to set their pets free to fend for themselves, thinking this a kinder option.
PBS produced a documentary (Dogs and More Dogs, 2004) that showed wild foxes bred selectively could produce domestic puppies by the 2nd or 3rd generation. Canines that must secure their own shelter and food will choose to mate with animals which are also skilled in this area. In turn, they produce litters that inherit these traits.
In one year's time a single pet dog can transform into a skilled hunter adding numbers of wild animals to a pack. It is surprising that these horrifying deaths don't occur more often considering these statistics.
USE YOUR OWN JUDGMENT:
Understand that this information is designed to help you either avoid a wild dog attack or survive an attack. The recommendations to use lethal force is in the defense of human life, but that may not protect you from legal actions. The focus of this article is to provide you with tools to escape alive.
HAVE A PLAN
Before you are ever in the circumstance, you can take measures to help insure your survival. A dog communicates his meaning with body language; in turn he will read your body language. Make yourself an undesirable target with your body language.
Take a repellent with you when you take a walk. You can usually repel dogs with a mixture of ammonia and hot sauce in a pistol-grip spray bottle; set your sprayer half-way between mist and stream. Get your best results by aiming for the mouth, eyes and nostrils.
Carry something with which to defend yourself. You can choose from a wide range of implements: knives, bats, golf clubs, knives, sticks, etc. Think outside the box. Whatever you find that you can place between yourself and an advancing dog is a good choice.
Don't let your guard down when a strange dog advances. You may think a breed is harmless, but you can't know for certain about this one particular animal. A dog that approaches with his head held level, not high and not low, is showing signs of aggression. A dog is a threat if he is moving evenly towards you at a steady run; this is much different than a friendly, loping gait.
AVOID THE APPEARANCE OF A THREAT
Looking into the eyes of the dog is a mistake. This is a challenge to the dog. Direct your eyes elsewhere. DON'T gaze into the animal's eyes.
Don't try to appear friendly with a smile. Exposing your teeth to a dog is a challenge to him, a sign of aggression. The wild dog will meet this challenge by attacking.
Rather than face the animal, turn your side slightly towards the approaching dog. Point the your weaker, less dominant, side towards the animal, keeping him within your peripheral line of sight. Offering the dog your side signals that you are not a threat; a face-forward stance positions you to attack him (in dog language).
DON'T PUT WEAKNESS OR FEAR ON DISPLAY
Don't turn around, exposing your back to the dog. This is just the opening an aggressive dog will use to lunge at you, because it perceives you to be weak.
Don't ever run from a dog. Your running will excite the dog to chase you.
Maintain your composure and be still. Don't shift positions. If you don't display signs of fear, the dog may lose interest. Your panic could threaten the dog or make him more aggressive in his attack.
Use a voice with authority if you speak. With a lowered vocal tone command the dog to "STOP!" "Go HOME" or "Go AWAY!" Squealing for help sounds like submissive puppy language to an aggressive dog; don't use that tone.
FIND COVER
In order to protect your hands, fold your arms tightly if you can slowly do so. Should the dog get more agitated, keep your arms lowered and your hands closed in fists to protect your fingers. It is inviting a bite to offer your arm or hand to the dog.
Place an object between the dog and your body. Whether the object is a book bag, a hat, an umbrella or a stick, an excited dog will zoom in on the object and bite it instead of you. It is best to remember that even if a dog does bite your arm, this still leaves you two legs and an arm with which to defend yourself.
Remembering to never turn your back to a dog, slowly back away and try to put something between yourself and the animal. Scan the landscape for a car, tree, or some other elevated object that you can climb onto, beyond the reach of the dog. Once you've reached this relatively safe position, shout for someone to help you.
IF YOUR PET IS ATTACKED
Don't yank the leash. By pulling on your pet, you will cause his injuries to become worse by tearing. Your dog can't defend itself if you are pulling it in the opposite direction. Release your hold on the dog leash. Study your situation. Use a weapon (if you have one) to kill the wild dog. If you aren't dealing with a pack of dogs and the one that has your animal is small enough, you may be able to beat him off with a stick. Should these things be questionable, I think you would do well to get to safety. Remaining alive is how I think you would best honor the sacrifice of your pet.
HOW TO RESCUE A CHILD OR OTHER PERSON BEING ATTACKED
End the attack using any lethal weapon or deadly force available to you.
Concentrate FIRST on getting the aggressive dog to stop. Don't make the mistake of trying to snatch the victim from the dog. The dog will increase his grip and begin to rip and tear at the victim. Force your fisted hand and arm into the dog's mouth. By prying the dog's mouth open with your own arm, you can release the victim's limb without causing further injury. Jam your fist downward into the dog's throat to reduce your potential injuries. A sharpened, walking stick can also be used to jam down the dog's throat.
Should there be a pack of dogs attacking the child, shield the child's body with your own. Position yourself face down with the child beneath you, knees bent, hands behind your neck, arms covering your face and ears. By becoming a rock, you use your body to shield the child from more harm.
WHEN A DOG ATTACKS
If you have the ability or weaponry, use them to kill the dog.
Use any object to place between the dog and yourself. Whether it's a purse, bicycle, stick, hat, jacket -- use ANYTHING that you find. Use your jacket to cover your weaker arm and offer this to the dog. Your other arm and both of your legs are then left free to affect an escape. By offering the dog your arm, he won't be pulling your legs to get you onto the ground or trying to leap at your throat.
If bitten, hold your arm so that the teeth clamp down on the sides of your forearm and wrist, protecting the soft flesh to the inside of the arm. There could be arterial damage to the wrist and forearm if the teeth hit the soft, flat flesh. Protect your fingers by keeping your hand balled into a fist.
Ward off attempts by the dogs to get you on the ground. Remain upright.
If possible, utilize a stick to deflect the attack. Thrust the stick down the throat of the dog if that doesn't work. It is possible that the dog will let go of your arm (if he has it) when you try this.
In the absence of a stick, thrust your arm into the dog's throat and push down hard. In this way, you will shut off the dog's oxygen and cause him to gag. Pulling back from a dog while your arm is in his mouth will cause greater damage to your arm.
While the dog is busy with your arm, use your other hand to dig out his eye with your thumb or slam into his throat with a sharp, decisive blow. The dog can be made to choke and pass out by shoving one arm well down the throat while placing the other arm behind the head. Use the second arm as a lever while you pull the snout up and backwards until the neck breaks. You can grab a back leg with your good arm and lift it upwards. The dog will then be forced into a submissive posture on its back. Don't release the leg, but use it to drag the dog along the ground until you are at a safer location. Take care with this tactic that you don't get knocked to the ground.
If you find yourself on the ground, be still and calm, unless the attack resumes. Should the dog continue to advance, flip onto your belly, draw your knees up to protect your throat and cover your ears with your arms. Lock your hands together across the back of your neck to protect this area. This passive posture may stop the attack.
WHEN THE ATTACK STOPS
Repeat to yourself the dog's coloring, gender, size and breed.
After washing the wounds with soap and warm water, wrap in a clean cloth and apply pressure to staunch the blood flow. Keep your wounds clean and bandaged; have your injuries examined
Warn neighbors about the danger paying particular attention to those who are elderly or who have small children. Notify authorities that there has been an attack.
FYI
I have a pet dog. She is trained and a beloved member of our household. I take good care of her with respect to her created nature. An abandoned dog will endeavor to survive by its inborn instincts. Safety lies in respecting and understanding this design.

SEEDS FOR SURVIVAL
broadcastseed
Genesis 1:29
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
Vigorous animal and plant life were created with the ability to generate similar offspring. Gardeners began to collect seeds and hold them in reserve for the next seedtime. Seed was harvested from the healthiest plants.
US corporations now exist that specialize in marketing seeds to farmers. The farmer was relieved of the time he used to spend to manually secure seed while the corporations gained a profit. Concerned only with the collection, storage and sale of seeds, these corporations flourished.
With new developments in science, it became possible to modify seeds and increase profits. However, the farmers, consumers and food quality did not always benefit from these new methods. Hoping to eliminate other sources, seed corporations set into motion a plan to become the only suppliers of seeds for farmers. Seeds were altered so that the resulting plants produced flawed seeds that either did not germinate, or did so in an unpredictable manner.
Today, there are 3 commonly used methods to accomplish this: Terminator Technology, genetically modified (GM) seeds, and hybrid plants.
Because hybrid plants are a cross of differing varieties, their seeds aren't likely to produce a similar plant. Genetically modified seeds (GM seeds) are designed to withstand many chemical applications. These GM plants allow farmers to use stronger chemical treatments that affect the microbes and nutrient content in the soil which, in turn, affects the nutrient content of the crops. Plants grown from seeds that have Terminator Technology will produce seeds which are sterile and cannot produce crops the following season.
A seed bank is one way that an individual can insure fertile seeds are available in the future. Farmers aren't the only ones that can participate in this project. Find sources for your seeds that state they sell only NON GM seeds. Limit your purchases to unaltered, heirloom seeds. Choose from the foods and ingredients you normally find in your kitchen for cooking and medicinal uses.
Dry your seeds from vegetables, fruits, flowers and herbs at room temperature on stiff paper. Make a notation of the date and the variety of seed on the paper as a reminder. Place the dried seeds into a labeled paper envelope. The envelopes can be kept in a glass jar in the refrigerator for great lengths of time. For most purposes, seeds will store well in a cool, dry, dark place. Seed balls are a good choice for grasses and grains that will be used to plant large areas.
Is there a reason that a person would store seeds that he isn't planning to grow?
The United States Congress is currently considering a piece of legislation named H.R. 875 which could potentially make it impossible for you to get produce from organic farmers or backyard gardeners. So far it is unknown whether the bill will pass or how it will be enforced. With this in mind, it may be best to store seeds while it is still legal to do so.
While you may not grow them yourself, think about saving a variety of seeds. The botanical name and the common name should both be used on the label; you may have to do a little research. On the internet, people regularly trade seeds through the mail. By trading your surplus seeds, you could secure the seeds you do want in an equal exchange.
If heirloom seed companies shut their doors, the seeds they offer might no longer exist. Current politics and the economy make this an uncomfortably realistic possibility. Having your own source of heirloom seeds may be one way you can insure a steady source of good organic foods, whether you normally grow your own or purchase from the roadside stand.

SAFETY TIPS FOR FLOODS
Flooding is rated first in the United States for weather related deaths. Flood conditions contribute to the deaths of an average of 140 people annually. Vehicle deaths account for 3/4ths of that total.
Nature is not the enemy in a flood and realizing this can contribute to your chances to survive. Flood conditions occur often enough that much information on survival techniques has been gathered.
Rivers that overflow their banks account for the primary form of flooding. Though there has been no rainfall in an immediate area, it is possible to experience flooding. Upriver storms and rain can cause the waters to rise in areas that haven't even detected a cloud. Extended rainfall over a period of weeks or days can culminate in flooding downstream. Two important pieces of information are your risk for flooding and the topography of the land in your area.
Restraining your pets or placing them on a leash indoors is one precaution you can take in time of flooding. Livestock should be moved to high ground. Tune your radio to the local weather station for updates and warnings. Time is of the essence when a flood warning is issued -- a flash flood warning may give you even less time to act. Escape may be measured in seconds. Swollen waterways will dispense their overflow onto the lowest level. Quickly the streams, creeks and streets will fill. Seek out higher ground rather than trying to outrun floodwaters. Don't try to drive out of a flash flood. A car cannot accelerate as quickly as a flash flood.
For those that have time to prepare, furniture and treasured items can be relocated to a higher level. Fill a variety of containers, even your bathtub, with clean water. If you have a family disaster plan, use it now.
If you see water covering an area, DON'T DRIVE into it. That water may be hiding hazards. The area isn't safe no matter how well you know it. The ground surface could have been compromised by water and objects. Toxic chemicals, downed power lines or an assortment of other debris can be mixed with the floodwater. Stop your vehicle, turn it around and find an alternate route.
Don't walk through standing water. The pull of floodwaters is deceptively strong. As little as a half-of a foot of water can be sufficient to set a child or an adult off their feet, carrying them away. Boiling water advisories may be issued so you'll want to listen to your radio for those. Take special note of any small openings in your home's exterior. Snakes, rats and neighbors' pets will be seeking shelter too, and may choose your home as a refuge.
Walk around the exterior of your house when you return after a flood to check for damage and places where animals may have entered. If you see foundation damage, it's best to hire a professional to inspect the safety of the premises. Wear protective clothing when cleaning up after a flood. Remember to wear a dust mask, long-sleeves, long pants, rubber gloves and waterproof boots. There will be a lot of silt, debris and mud swept into a flooded home. Bring enough clothing to change as your work garments get soiled. The sludge contains bacteria that could cause sickness.
