How to Survive Back Pain

When your back muscles are spasming in pain, it’s difficult to think. The pain can become so severe, that it leaves you nauseous. In some cases, the event can go on for days, leaving a sufferer feeling as though he is recovering from a bad case of the flu.

These are my best recommendations for stopping back pain in its tracks.

Back pain can be devastating!

THE FIRST STEP
Acknowledge your discomfort at the earliest sign of pain. You can actually make things worse by trying to keep going. If you want to avoid a lot of down time take action right away.

Apply cold and hot water to the area, alternating between the two. This can be done in the shower and brings immediate relief. Keep this going for fifteen minutes or as long as you can manage. This can really help to relieve muscle spasms.

THEN

Drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated can be a challenge when you are in pain. You may be tempted to avoid a full bladder, but water is what the body uses to flush those toxins from the body. A lack of hydration can cause constipation, which can be another contributor to back pain. Drinking plenty of water is a requirement when dealing with a painful back.

Add ginger to your water. Drinking ginger tea can help ease the pain. If you can’t find this, a well made ginger ale can help. Ginger root helps reduce spasms and pain. Read more about ginger’s properties here: Benefits of Ginger Root

WRAP IT UP

Once the edge has been taken off of the pain, you’ll want to get some rest. Before you lie down, place a cabbage leaf onto the area. This amazing remedy really works. One additional thing you can do that can really help relieve the pain is to take a good quality cod liver oil. We like to purchase Nature’s Answer, Liquid Norwegian Cod Liver Oil, Natural Lemon-Lime Flavor from iHerb as my husband doesn’t care for the fish taste. Fish oil is a natural anti-inflammatory. Read your labels and use care in your selection. When hurting, we simply take a couple of tablespoons and repeat every 2 hours or so until the pain subsides. This works well for other inflammatory conditions as well, including things like mild allergic reactions.

NOTE: You should always use good judgment when administering home remedies. These are methods that have worked for others and in my own home. The reader should remember, however, that this information is no substitute for a considered medical opinion. Take the time to do your own research and make informed decisions
